The Inner Mongolia Academy of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “IMAST”) was established in February 2021 by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (hereinafter referred to as the “Autonomous Region”) as part of a deepened effort to implement the innovation-driven development strategy and advance the “Science and Technology Revitalization in Inner Mongolia” initiative. As a public institution directly under the regional government, IMAST is a flagship regional-level research organization specifically designated by the regional Party Committee and government to serve as a model, open, and platform-based new-type research institute.
Adhering to new concepts in planning, new systems in establishment, new approaches in management, and new mechanisms in innovation, IMAST aims to benchmark against top-tier domestic institutions. Its functional positioning is to become a regional hub for science and technology research, technology transfer and incubation, innovation talent aggregation, and experimental reform in institutional mechanisms. Aligned with the strategic goals of safeguarding “two barriers” (ecological security and border security), building “two bases” (national energy and strategic resource bases, and important production bases for agricultural and livestock products), and serving as “a key bridgehead” for opening up to the north, IMAST focuses the key research and development areas on new energy, new materials, equipment manufacturing, agriculture and biotechnology, ecological conservation, and strategic resources. The academ’s overarching goal is to establish itself as a highland for regional innovation resource aggregation, a special zone for reform in research and development mechanisms, and a driving force for high-quality industrial development in the Autonomous Region.
IMAST hosts nearly 30 national and regional-level innovation platforms and carriers, including the China-Mongolia Mineral Processing Technology Joint Laboratory under the Ministry of Science and Technology’s “Belt and Road” Initiative, an Inner Mongolia Technology Transfer Service Institution, an Inner Mongolia Demonstration Technology Service Institution, an Inner Mongolia “Makerspace and Star Creation Zone,” the Key Laboratory of Molecular Biology of Characteristic Plants of Inner Mongolia, the Inner Mongolia Green Control Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, the Inner Mongolia Nonferrous and Rare Precious Metals Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Inner Mongolia Nonferrous Metals Standardization Technical Committee.
